Dear All:

Well, this has been quite the week. We spent a lot of the beginning of the week in Matagalpa. President Frattz came and we had 30 second interviews. It was more just so the AP could come and machete us (everyone uses the verb machetear as a form of to chastize). Anyway, so that was ok. It was probably the only time that I will get to talk to him.

Things are good. I used my money better this week. Our two investigators are going all right. The only lady we are teaching, Sorieda, has a problem with coffee. She read 3rd Nefi and I´m not sure she know´s it´s true yet,but she is still listening and still praying. The problems are that her sisters are Evengelicas and agaist the church. They have lied to us that she left for a different town a couple of times. There are more evangelicos here almost than catholics. Anyway, she also has a hard time with coffee so we went to a pulperia(little street venders that sell pretty much anything you want, there´s one on ever street corner) and bought her a couple packets of tang to replace the coffee. We will see if it works.

We had District conference yesterday. It went ok, but we sucked the witch on our attendance ( sucked the witch is a saying here that means just kind of like it sucked). We were hoping to get like 35,but we only had 20. We had to rent a bus for the day to take us into matagalpa. On saturday night, we took two priesthood holders into matagalpa for priesthood conference. We caught rides all the way in to Matagalpa. We took Bunergi. He is crazy, but he wanted to come. Something crazy happened on Saturday night. Mom and dad, I´m writing it in the letter so that you don´t find out until like 3 weeks after it happened and you won´t worry quite so much.

Our p-day today was boring. we just sat around the church and relaxed. We were gonig to watch church movies, but one of the missionaries messed that up. Anyway, I went and bought one tie for $1.75 and another for $3.75. Things are good. I don´t have a lot of time.I hope the pictures are good. I´ll send some more next week.

We are working hard and have a possiblility of like 6 or 7 baptisms for this next month. We just have to get our investigators to go to church. That´s half the battle and we can´t just take them becuase we have to be at the church a half hour early.

I finished 1st Nefi and I pretty much understood all of it. I have 100 pages into Jesus the Christ. The chruch is true. It is interesting to see how it doesn´t matter how much money you have. Whether you have a lot or a little, it doesn´t change how difficult it is to live the Gosple of Jesus Christ. It is interesting to look at all these other churches. A lot of the people here like to go to these churches that clap and are fun. Not to criticize any church because they all teach a piece of the truth, but a lot of times the only reason people like to go to these other churches is because they make them feel good. They don´t have any responsibility and it is easier, but I know that those who learn and understand and live the true gosple of Jesus Christ will be blessed. It isn´t that hard to live. Most of the things we teach make sense. They are the right things to do in society anyway. It is just easier that they are commandments of God. Everyday, I think of how interesting it is that people don´t even want to learn or hear about this message. If we believe in it so much that we jsut want to share it, why not take a little time to learn about it? All we do is invite others to learn about the teachings of Jesus Christ and how His same church has been restored to the earth once again. We don´t push or force it on anyone. We just invite them to learn and then invite them to find out for themselves if it is true. That is it. So if there is anyone that is reading this that is thinking about someone to share the gosple with, invite them to learn and find out. If there are any people who read this who are not members, I invite you to simply invite the missionaries and some members to teach you what we believe. Learn about a living prophet who leads the church and recieves revelation for the people of the world today.

Well, they chruch is true. We have a prophet and all of us can repent every day.It is an amazing gift we have. So next week, my letter is gonig to be mostly in Spanish and then you can translate it, but I am going to show off my spanish next week. Thank you for each of you who sent me letters. Sister Warr, my once apon a time part-time temporary mother, that was funny, thanks. Keep them coming. I love you all.
Elder Ashby
